Vintage World in Chicago
OSSA members Tom Gasper and I were the only Buckeyes in
attendance at the World Vintage Skeet Championships this past weekend (May 18-21st) held at Chicago’s Northbrook Sports Club.
Vintage Skeet is shot on a standard skeet field with a standard target rotation-but with a side by side shotgun. Also the 1935 rules are used which dictate a delayed target release and a low gun starting position. Otherwise, it is the game you know!
Due to a family emergency, Tom could only shoot Thursday’s preliminary events. These included a 50 target 16 Gauge Event and a 50 Bird Hammergun Handicap for any gauge. What really makes the story interesting is that Tom was shooting my guns–and beat me in both these events!
In the 16 gauge event, Tom took the Open Bronze Medal and
in the Hammer Gun Event won the Open Gold. Nice shooting Tom! [Tom, the 16 gauge is for sale!]
I did manage a couple medalist finishers, taking the Gold in Doubles, 12 Gauge, and HAA. Vintage Skeet is a small but growing part of our game and Tom and I did our best to uphold Ohio’s founding efforts.
