Vintage Skeet State Championships September 30th –October 1st

Perhaps you noticed the word vintage in our title caption regarding the Ohio Vintage Skeet State Championships and you ask—what is Vintage Skeet?  Well, here is the answer!
We would like to invite you to join us the last weekend in September for an exciting version of our favorite clay game.  Remember that skeet was invented in the United States in the early 1920’s as a method to hone upland game shooting skills.  Targets were thrown with a delayed release and a low gun mount was used–as if one was shooting over their trusted hunting dog.  In the last 80 years, the skeet game has moved away from its hunting heritage and evolved into a precision shooting discipline with instant pulls and a mounted gun as the norm.  Now you have a chance to try your skills at the game that enamored so many 1,000’s of long gone shooters from the 1930’s and 1940’s.
We challenge you to give our Vintage Skeet game a try.  You will have more shooting fun and, at the same time, sharpen you all around shooting skills.  Vintage Skeet competitors use period style equipment [side by side or pump guns made in any era] as well as the original [circa 1935] rules–which feature both a delayed target release and an off-the-shoulder low gun hold position.  This is the Skeet game our Grandfather’s would have shot!
Remember too, the 1930’s was the era of paper shells, cardboard wads, and resultant less than perfect shot shell performance.  STRAIGHT rounds of perfect 25 were rare and were usually cause for a celebration!   In fact, even with today’s improved shells, we have never had a perfect 100×100 recorded in five previous World Vintage Shoots!
I do hope that you will accept the challenge and give Vintage Skeet a try while at the Black Wing Shooting Center September 30 thru October 1st.
