Delaware, OH – On July 28-29, Black Wing Shooting Center (Black Wing), hosted The Spaghetti Open skeet shoot.

The Spaghetti Open presenter, Mike Albanese, provided $400 in added money plus a Remington Shotgun which was given away at Saturday night’s spaghetti dinner.  Each shooter received a commemorative T-Shirt complete with a 2007 Italian flag pin at registration.  Over $400 in additional door prizes were awarded during Saturday night’s dinner.  With 50 shooters in attendance and 15,400 targets thrown, the Spaghetti was contested under great Ohio summer weather conditions unlike last year’s hot, humid Texas like weather.

Several milestones at the Spaghetti were set of which one may be hard to top.  11 shooters shot their first American skeet targets this weekend with a total of 16 first year shooters participating at the Spaghetti.  One shooter, Avery Crum, broke his first targets with his grandfather, Porter Crum, as his squad mate.  Way to go Avery and to all of our new shooters welcome to American skeet.  Also, 50 shooters participated at the Spaghetti, a new record for Black Wing.

The 12 Gauge event started Saturday’s activities with a lone 100 posted by Bryan Rogers to capture the title.  Following closely behind were class winners: Wayne Harvey, AA1, John Jankowski, AA-2, Mike Hyche, A-1, Jonathan Rosenbaum, A-2, Ed Atherton, B-1, Ron Margello, B-2, Chris Olson, C-1, Melinda Angel, C-2, Rock Wilson, D-1, Dave Guinn, D-2, Kevin Bradshaw, E-1, Aaron Rosenbaum, E-2, and Richard Irene, E-3.

The 20 GA Event immediately followed with Wayne Harvey claiming the title after a shoot out with Flint Gabelman, A-1, and Jonathan Rosenbaum, A-2. Other class winners were: Jim Murphy, AA-1, Mike Hyche, AA-2, Bryan Rogers, A-3, Bill Fisher, B-1, Jason Sheeny, B-2, Louis Visco, C-1, Dave Guinn, C-2, Mike Ullman, D-1, Greg Musson, D-2.

Our hosts, Chef Mike Albanese, and Chef Jean Johnson did not participate in the 12 and 20 Gauge events but participated in the Pasta Event as they busily prepared Saturday night’s feast.  Donning their Executive Chef uniforms, Chef Mike and Chef Jean served dinner in the shooting center to a bunch of hot tired shooters, family members and Black Wing Staff members.  The tables were covered with red table cloths and decorated with wine bottles- with a lighted candle in each.  Chef Mike and Chef Jean broke their own records, of sort, in the gallons of meat sauce and pasta used for Saturday’s dinner.  Dinner also included fresh Italian bread, garden fresh salad, red wine, and two famous Bravo cheese cakes.

After dinner, the festivities started with two very special recognitions.  First, Chef Jean introduced Ben Lawrence, NSSA number 37918, the Spaghetti’s Life Time Achievement Honoree.  Ben has been a member of NSSA since February 24, 1964.  Ben has received his 44 years service pin with lifetime targets of 269,894.  Ben is in the top 20 shooters in the nation in lifetime targets.  Congratulations Ben from all of us.  Second, the Spaghetti recognized Ron Margello’s Squad of new first year shooters led by squad captain Ron Margello.  The squad members are: Pat Burns, Bob Hill, and Dick Irene.  Ron has mentored these new shooters from the Heritage through the Spaghetti skeet shoots.  Each squad member was presented a Spaghetti hat with their name and the name “Ron’s Squad” embroidered on the hat.  Congratulations to each one and most importantly enjoy the game of skeet.

Next were the award presentations.  Saturday’s Event Champions in 12 GA, Bryan Rogers, and 20 GA, Wayne Harvey, were presented hats listing their achievements.  However no expense was spared for Saturday’s class winners.  Each class winner received a can of “Chef in the Can”, to remind them of Chef Mike and Chef Jean.  A plastic fork was glued to the side of the can with a placard spelling out their achievements inserted in-between the tings of the plastic fork.  No problem meeting budget for these awards!

A special treat awaited the lady shooters.  Bill Guinn donated a necklace and earings set of Paraiba Ice Simulant (Brilliant Blue) to each lady shooter.  A tradition may have been born.

Finally, the winner of the Remington shotgun was drawn and the lucky winner was Bruce Stephan, one of our new shooters.  What a way to start your registered skeet career Bruce!

Sunday kicked off with the 28 GA Event.  Two perfect scores were posted by Mike Harm and Jim Murphy.  Jim won the shoot-off to take the title with Mike settling for AA-1.  Other class winners were: Bryan Rogers, AA-2, Jean Johnson, A-1, Scott Fisher, A-2, Bill Fisher, B-1, Jonathan Rosenbaum, B-2, Chris Olson, C-1, Jason Sheeny, C-2, Gregg Musson, D-1, and Mike Ullman, D-2.

The 410 Event concluded the shoot with a pair of 98s posted by Bryan Rogers and Wayne Harvey.  Bryan outlasted Wayne to take the title with Wayne as AA-1.  Other class winners were: Jim Rogers, AA-2, Ron Margello, A-1, Mike Albanese, A-2, Scott Fisher, B-1, Nyle Morgan, B-2, Hal Hare, C-1, Dave Guinn, C-2, Mike Ullman, D-1, and Pat Burns, D-2.

Bryan Rogers took home the Spaghetti HOA with a 395.  Congratulations Bryan.

Our hats are off to Chef Mike Albanese and Chef Jean Johnson for presenting the Spaghetti Open.  A special thanks to Chef Mike for providing the added money and the Remington shotgun.  See you at the next shoot.
