Ohio Event 6 Vintage Skeet Championships

The first officially licensed OSSA State Vintage Skeet Championships was held at the Black Wing Shooting Center September 30th / October 1st , 2006 and was attended by 12 enthusiastic vintage skeet fans.  [Vintage Skeet uses the early skeet rules which include a delayed target release and a low gun mount.  Only side by side or pump guns were permitted.]  The 2006 OSSA Championships consisted of six different 50 target events, which included the standard 4 skeet gauges as well as Doubles and a 16 gauge only event.
HOA was based on a competitor’s best 4 finishes in any of the 6 events.  Any event could be fired on either day.  Rather than using target count to determine HOA, a rank scoring system was used.  The system gives 1 point for First Place, 2 points for Second Place, 3 points for Third Place, etc.  This system places equal weight on each event.
What is a shoot report without a weather disclaimer?  This article shall be no different.  Saturday weather could be described in one word–challenging!  Puffing tempests and threatening cloud cover prevailed most of the day, resulting in constantly changing extreme variances in lighting conditions.  The good only good news about Saturday’s weather was that the wind was blowing too hard for it to rain!  Fortunately, Sunday was another story with perfect Ohio Indian Summer weather and no wind.   It is curious to note that the scores remained constant–despite the weather.  Only a handful of 25 straights were seen over the weekend.
With shooters from Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania we recorded  42 entries for our championship. Here are the results:
HOA Sixth Place went to Columbus [OH] shooter Tom Gasper.  Tom tied for Open Third Place in the 16 Gauge and 20 Gauge Events and finished the HOA race with 15 points.
