Just what is Vintage Skeet and why is it shot?

Ohio was the home of the first World Shoot and Ohio was likewise home of the 1st World Vintage Shoot in 2001. The goal was to make the game more fun!   Vintage Skeet provides an opportunity to use some of those old time skeet guns that are no longer considered competitive equipment, i.e. pumps and side by sides. Vintage Skeet also gives us a little appreciation of how the ‘old timers’ shot the game using the tougher rules which included a low gun and variable target release.  Vintage Skeet’s targets and shooting sequence do remain the same as the current modern skeet game.
Also, there is a little less emphasis on scores since we have no expectations of a 400×400.  Just like in the old days, a 25 str4aight is a cause to celebrate!  Sure, scores are kept, but they do not impact your current NSSA averages.  Vintage targets are only counted towards a member’s lifetime target count.
Vintage skeet offers a more relaxed game that more closely resembles hunting practice for upland birds–the original purpose of our game.  It also offers the opportunity to use some fireamrs that are not or the Semi-Automatic or Over & Under design, but your favorite hunting guns.
Perhaps you have some old iron in the closet that should be exercised on the Skeet fields?  Watch for information regarding the Ohio Vintage Skeet State Shoot to be held this Fall.
