At the end of the events on Saturday
and before the shoot offs, a group of shooters gathered on Field 5 to
shoot one of Jim Doebereiner’s hats... one last time. In a later and
moving ceremony before dinner, many of Jim’s friends and shooting
buddies spoke of times when Jim was still running shoots, actively
shooting, and traveling all over the world to feed his love of the
outdoors.
Judy Doebereiner, her son Bob, and grandson Matthew attended the
ceremony and accepted the many tributes to her late husband. More than
once, voices cracked, tears welled in the eyes, and memories flooded
back for all who had known Jim on and off the fields.

In case you hadn't noticed, Wayne
Harvey had a very good shoot with Fred Tschantz, Jr breathing right
down his neck. Congratulations to these two fine shooters and to all
who came to share our fun. Bragging rights have now been established
for another full year.
For those who are just curious about
how well NSSA Executive Director Don Snyder did... ah, he did rather
well for the first time at our club. He won the money (but not the
title) for AA3 in the Doubles with a 98, ran 100 in the 12 gauge but
lost in the big shoot off, ran another 100 in the 20 gauge and got AA2,
dropped one in the 28 gauge and then lost AA3 in a shoot off, came back
in the .410 to take RunnerUp with a 98, grabbed AA1 in HOA with a 397,
and finished the same in HAA with a more than respectable 495.
For those who missed it, meeting Don Snyder was a real treat for
everyone on the property and we all got a chance to bend his ear about
what was going at NSSA and where we thought skeet should be going. I’m
sure he logged every suggesting in with the rest of those he gets at
other clubs and in our own small way, we may have helped to guide or
direct our game... if only just a little bit.
Thanks for coming Don. You’re welcome anytime you can get back up to
the NorthCoast. You made enough new friends that we can always put
together a squad for you and shoot and chat a bunch more.
