In 2003 at the World Skeet Shooting Championships in San Antonio Texas, the Doubles Event Shoot Off came down to three shooters. Among them was Fred Tschantz of Akron Ohio who eventually ended up taking the Runner-Up position.
Fred is a patrolman in his “normal” life as well as having been appointed as “Ohio’s Skeet Police” (with no official duties). He’s long been a fixture on the shoot off fields at most of the shoots he attends and normally shoots between 15 - 20 rounds of practice a week during the shooting season. From helping to put on registered target tournaments to pulling a hitch as the President of the Ohio State Skeet Association, Fred has paid his dues in this game and earned the respect of his fellow shooters.
Next time you see him at his home club of Sportsmen’s Shooting Center in Canton Ohio, or at one of the other great shoots in Ohio or the region, walk right up to Fred and say “Hi!”... then place both hands on the hood of the car and spread your feet...
A special thanks goes out to Robert Paxton of Paxton Arms for having shot this footage and allowing it to be made available to others.
